UBike - New Rules for Foreigners?

That’s going to be the case for everything. Anybody who pays attention knows the new format has the same problems as before - the group that ‘lobbies’ for change for foreigners appear to be the only people who don’t understand this.

I sent a contact us complaint to UBike about how they keep messaging me to register for their insurance but their website refuse to accept APRC / ARC id numbers. Wonder if they will respond?

Does this mean all pass ticket for bus and metro doesn’t include 30 min free ride of youbike for foreigners?

AFAIK, the 30 min free pass is for all Ubike users, regardless if you took a bus or train before getting the bike.

They responded and said the insurance scheme is for citizens only. I responded that citizenship should not matter for insurance and that I am a resident, have NHI card and pay the same tax as Taiwanese, so why I should not entitled to public insurance scheme for UBike.

Yes that’s what they told me too. The change is very recent, maybe only in the last week or so. I also got “Invalid ID” when I try using the Kiosk at the Ubike stations.

No, in Taipei city it is not, 30 minutes is only free if you transfer and use the same card. As long as the card is the same card as use bus / MRT then the transfer discount will apply.

30 minutes without transfer costs NT$5 in Taipei city.

So often they fail to understand the difference between a resident and a tourist.

I suggest we all try sending feedback to them, perhaps they might listen…

Can’t you just opt out of the insurance if it’s for citizens only ? Or can’t you just enter a tw id number ? Or are tw id numbers restricted to just one easy card ?

What’s their contact?

either use the contact form here: https://taipei.youbike.com.tw/contact/contact or email directly to service-taipei@youbike.com.tw

I sent in an inquiry as well.

I want to believe that it’s simply an oversight - not attributing for malice what is able to be explained by incompetence and all - though OP said that they went to the Info Center and was told the details.

I would go to ministry of transportation

https://www.motc.gov.tw/ch/main.jsp?prg=ap/mailbox.jsp&maintitle=部長(民意)信箱

And ask to mrt and bus to explicitly write that foreigners cannot use the free 30 min youbike ride.

Fools, they have just unknowingly created a niche business opportunity. Waiguoren bike. Entrepeneurs step up.

They responded.

For register to be a YouBike member, it requires Taiwan mobile number and an EasyCard/Ipass, and user’s serial number of Taiwanese ID card.

If you do have friends or relatives in Taiwan, We highly recommand that you can use their cellphone number and register with your EasyCard below their account on our website.

A guarantor for a bike rental. lol
But you are still not covered by their insurance since you actually use a card that is registered to someone else…

Do their terms and conditions allow to give your card to someone else in the first place?

Only impacts New Registrants at the moment. So if you already set up your Easycard with UBike more than a week ago then take very good care of that card.
