UK spousal visa for Taiwanese wife

Hi guys, have some queries about a spousal visa that my wife will apply for in April.

I’m a British citizen currently living in the UK, I married my wife in Taiwan last year and then returned to UK, she is still working in Taiwan (English teacher). What I’m concerned about is the level of my finances and whether this is good enough to satisfy the gov that my wife and I can live without recourse to public funds.

I was unemployed for several months at the end of last year (did not receive any benefits) and I now work in my family’s business, a hotel. This work is casual and not very regular owing to the seasonal nature of the business. I supplement this by working as a freelance writer/proofreader and I’m currently registering myself as self-employed for this purpose. According to londonelegance.com/transpondia/spouse/ self-employed people need to show previous year’s tax returns, but as I’m not actually registered self-employed yet this is not possible.

I’m hoping our general financial situation will help - I have £11,000 in savings and my wife has just over £10,000 too. We will also be living in my parent’s home, so will not have to pay rent etc.

If anyone has any experience of this do you think we can satisfy the gov’s requirement for being financially independent?

Many thanks for your help!
