Unanswerable visa question?

I have surfed every Taiwan Ex Pat site known to man and have still not found the answer to this question…

When should I book my ‘return’ flight to London for, given that I plan to extend a 60 day visitor visa ? My guess is 60 days after my arrival, BUT would they grant me an extension if my flight out of Taiwan has already left ? Would I have to buy yet another flight ticket which I never plan to use ?

No need for witty, epic replies. I know the subject matter isn’t gripping. A one-liner would suffice.

Okay, I’ll try to be as dry and concise as possible.
The date on the ticket for your flight out of Taiwan should match your current visa i.e. be before the visa expires.
Once you are here, you can easily (assuming that the ticket isn’t an el cheapo one with lots of restrictions) change the date of your flight out. Shouldn’t cost a cent.

Thanks, I never thought of that !

PS. I only suggested short, snappy replies cos I thought that would encourage replies. Be as epic and witty as you please !

It doesn’t have to be a return ticket. You just need to have a ticket out of Taiwan - i.e. it could be to Hong Kong, Manila etc. You can still cancel the ticket once you’re here. There will probably be a charge for the cancellation - 10% or thereabouts.

If you get a multientry tourist visa, you don’t even need to have a ticket out – as long as the visa is good for a minimum of six months after your arrival date.

Disclaimer: this is true for the U.S. Not sure about Brits. The ticketing agents at EVA Air may be able to confirm or deny; they straightened out my travel agent on it.
