This is an excellent article written by Thomas B. Gold, a Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. He attempts to answer the question “What conceptual tools do China’s leaders draw on to understand their own society?” in order to inform us how to better understand the political behavior of the Chinese government.

I recommend it.

I think the title of this thread should be “Understanding China.” In any case, it is a decent overview of the current situation in that country though nothing outstanding. I can think of a dozen Forumosans who could have written an equally good summary.
