Uneducated prime ministers

Yesterday I saw the prime minister of Malaysia on the BBC explaining that replacing rain forest with mono culture/crop palm oil trees is not bad for nature … :s he explained that they are also trees that provide oxygen … :astonished: but he doesn’t say that cutting rain forrest exterminates many plant, animal and insect species … the tree/oxygen theory is also flawed, it’s not so that trees only supply oxygen, they also use oxygen and in some cases even release enormous quantities of carbon …

An uneducated Prime minister … :s people like this freak me out …
it’s not so that trees only supply oxygen, they also use oxygen and in some cases even release enormous quantities of carbon …
Tell me more about this… I know that tree respire, using oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, like most living things. But I thought photosynthesis gave off much more oxygen, or does that depend on the plant ? What are trees made of ? Mainly carbon. Burning them would release all that carbon dioxide back into the air.

I believe the most efficient producers of O2 are done by aquatic micro-organism in the CO2 - O2 cycle theory. So the ideal solution to the increasing human population is to have a sea of floating green stuff while killing off those other non-essential O2 consumers on the planet. Like cats and penguins for instance.

It’s when the tree loses the leafs and under dry conditions, the fallen leafs produce, carbon and methane or something … I read about it and saw it in a documentary … but basically it’s not about the oxygen I’m complaining, but about the attitude of the prime minister … oh, doesn’t matter, a tree is a tree, all trees provide oxygen … not even interested in the disappearing fauna …

:roflmao: Greenpeace is going to be all over your ass. I agree with the cats, though. You can start by getting rid of the noisy buggers outside my apartment.
