Unit Production Manager

Why on Earth would I want to know who the unit production manager on any movie is?

How the hell did the Unit Production Manager Union get the say that their name should get first mention in the credits?

And why , oh WHY would anybody be remotely interested in the least significant part of any movie crew?

Directors, editors, and best boys, please discuss.

I’m a big fan of the clapper-loaders, myself. :bravo:

As befits your station.

Next!

The gaffer has to be the best movie job, IMO. No idea what the guy does, but it sounds great.

I would have thought the fluffer was your favorite?

the fluffer and the clapper-loader work as a team. Next up is the best boy, who’s been gaffered to the grip and is run in on a dolly. Sparkies fly!

No, but seriously, WHY the frickin Unit Production Manager? And why ALWAYS the UPM? What about the driver, the casting agency, or even the bloody stills photographer, fer feck’s sake?

actually pretty sure the director usually gets the top spot for that.

actually, union upm’s are represented by the directors guild (dga)

fyi, watching the end credits is NOT mandatory. hell, unless its your job, watching the movie isn’t a necessity to survival either. just don’t buy tickets and dont take the trip out. but the crew does deserve credit for their hard work.

Yeah, we knew that. So, why does the Unit production manager get top credit in all but the biggest movies?

Rockie, tell me, mate: just how much BAD TV and B-Grade video do you watch anyway? Absolutely none by the sound of it. Anyroads, much less than I do.

Hey Folks, we’ve got a real Art house frat boy here!

can’t recall ever seeing that happen— I’ve seen too many movies. care to provide an example of a film where that (upm name comes up before director’s) occurs? and why would you CHOOSE to watch bad tv?

I know b movies and indie films, and I’ve seen many of those. I also know homemade videos, or home movies as theyre called, and youtube is one of my most visited sites so I’ve probably viewed tens of thousands of them. not sure what you mean by a b-grade video though.

the art house part is arguable, but I’d lean towards a no. and though I have many friends that would likely fall into the category, I am not a frat boy…I promise.

You do not want to piss off the unit production manager. Unless you want your unit to be shoddily produced. Believe me.
