I haven’t seen any figures there, but if I could guess (if she isn’t extremely stupid), she made money in the running, the donors lost their cash
Now afterwards, she can probably charge 50-100k USD (basing it on old figures Bill Clinton charged and reduced of course) for a day with a company and their customers, so if she is sad she lost, she can make it up by looking at her bank statement
It’s in the US constitution that slavery is ok if you’ve been convicted of a crime. This is old world bullshit at its finest: don’t like someone’s opinion? Convict them of a crime. Now they can’t vote. Don’t have enough cheap/literally free labor? Start convicting people of crimes. Human rights? No.
Again nothing to do with the topic - just more social justice whining.
The US constitution is what set the slaves free by the way…go ask all the Americans who fought and died to free them.
But if you feel so strongly against forced labor then you should direct your whining to the CCPs xinyangs camps - you know…the ones Westerners still buy Made in China things from?
And I want to add that this naive sympathy towards convicts is what has led to distrastrous movements in America such as defund the police - which has gotten many many more innocents killed….
You’re the one who said criminals should be paying back society by working for no pay. That’s the definition of slave labor.
The 13th amendment was a way to keep slavery in place once it was abolished.
I buy very little stuff, across the board, precisely because of the high likelihood that it was made by slave and/or child labor. Both the CCP and the USA can be responsible for criminally unacceptable treatment of other humans at the same time.
Fun fact of the day: did ya know that in the United States a private citizen can sue the local or federal government? There is also a record of private citizens winning! Where do you think our Miranda rights come from? So successful in fact that other countries in the English speaking world have created their own version of these rights!
“But racist ExpatDad” I hear you say “they don’t call them the Miranda rights so how could that have been modeled from them?”
Maybe this guy, Sir Edward Coke, has something to comment Almost everything is built on something…. The Miranda act is built on the right to silence, kind of a key part of the Miranda act
from the article:
Though the official definition of a prison is a “correctional" or “educational” institution, some prisoners spend most of the time working, often in enforced silence. They receive a measly NT$100 (US$3.25) to NT$200 per month as their “work income,” and use this to buy daily necessities from the prison store.Sep 13, 2018
That’s worse than the US (zero to about twenty cents/hour in the US means they make about US$16/month)
It should be noted that this work isn’t actually “optional”, at least in the US. It’s “optional” in that you can choose not to do it if you want longer prison time, less chance for parole, and records of non compliance. In other words, your chance at freedom is dependent on whether or not you go and work for literal pennies per hour. Slavery.
Oh cry me a river.
You cant do the time, dont do the crime.
Prison isnt supposed to be a holiday.
It is repayment to society for the crimes comitted. The fact they get any money at all is more than they deserve. It is not slavery. It is consequences for actions.
Not everyone in prison is even convicted of a crime
Not everyone is guilty of the crime they were convicted of
The 13th amendment was literally written as it was for the express purpose of being able to arrest people and convict them of crimes so there would be the slave labor available
Do you need a doctor for these stretches that you’re making? You’re just unempathetic because this doesn’t concern you and you’ve never been in this situation.
