I’m planning on heading to Taiwan soon to teach English and one of my biggest anxieties about doing this is the fact that my alma mater’s college football (football not futbol) team is in line for a great season after a tradition of losing (with some pretty craptastic seasons during my four years there). Because we have never really been that good and actually have been pretty terrible in the recent years I have never seen my college team during a successful season, which is what many sports pundits have predicted for us this coming season (success that is).
In light of this I was wondering if anyone could tell me how often american college football games get broadcast in Taiwan… given that I expect the number of broadcasts to be nil or low does anyone also know if there are any sports bar like places in Taiwan that would have some amazing satellite system where I would be able to catch American broadcasts of college football? I know last time I was in Taiwan visiting family I spotted a broadcast of Monday Night (professional) Football on some espn based channel (it just so happened to be the amazing colts 28 point comeback over the bucs).
I’m guessing San Jose St.
Go Tulsa Golden Hurricane!
I’d say the Golden Bears of California. San Jose St. has had some respectable teams in recent years, but Cal almost always sucks. Damn it, now I’m going to start missing college football too! :raspberry:
amishrock, The Brass Monkey showed college football last year, usually a game or two per week.
Here’s a link.
The thing I really miss is NFL sunday football. Its too bad they dont put the games on the internet like they do with MLB.COM for baseball.
I’d say the Golden Bears of California.[/quote]
Cal has had back-to-back winning seasons the last 2 years, and last year they beat Virginia Tech in the Insight Bowl. A good friend of mine plays for them and will be a senior this coming year.
Actually they do, but you need to pay for something called “NFL League Pass” in order to listen in or watch a webcast. I remember the days when broadcasts used to be free. Of course, one option is finding a team’s flagship station and seeing if they stream to the net during the game. Some do, some don’t.
i was able to listen to stl rams games over the internet. nfl.com provided the limited visual charts.
university of missouri has largely been shite in my lifetime. maybe he’s a tiger fan. the QB(johnson) is michael vick before the broken leg.
don’t think you’ll see many ncaa football games televised in taiwan. you should be able to find it “netcast” (is that a word?) somewhere.
Regarding the NFL, I could always listen to the games but I want to watch them just like I can with MLB.com where I can watch almost every Padres game or any other game live everyday or watch it later as an archive. I was always willing to pay for live streaming NFL video but they dont offer it. Hopefully this year they get their act together.
damn you’re pretty quick smerf, my team is the golden bears and despite the fact that yes we’ve had back-to-back winning seasons (what SteveZeAuthor wrote) this coming season will be the first season in a while where we were ranked (preseason) in the top 25 (we are in the top 15 in many analysts lists). coming into this season we will have a top notch quarterback (many say he’ll be a top draft pick after this, his junior, year), a top receiver (2nd in receiving yards in all the country last year, and robbed of an All American honor), great runningbacks, an improved defence, and most importantly the best offensive coach in college football right now. hopefully you guys can see the enthusiasm i have about this coming season and understand why i’m so desperate to view these games.
As far as i know there are no webcasts for Cal games (trust me i’ve been trying to find some for the past 3 years) and i just can’t get by listening to an audio feed off the internet (if the past 2 seasons are indications this offence is something that has to be seen not only heard). Smerf mentioned the brassmonkey showing some games, does anybody know which channel they are broadcasting these games through? ESPN? I ask because the Pac10 has a contract with Fox Sports Net allowing them only one game per week to be shown on another non Fox station, given that USC is also gonna be a Pac10 powerhouse i think it will be a rare occurence for Cal to be on any ESPN feed and i doubt Fox Sports runs on any international satellite system. But please prove me wrong guys, does anyone know of any places outside of brassmonkey that also shows college football games? damn i’m sweating already…
