US Media & Propaganda: Dead bodies OK, marines' coffins not
WTF? Put your money where your big mouth is and show me how.
sure looks to me like you’re moving the goalposts.

Oh, I see, Flipper. You must have a small brain as well as a big mouth, unless you just selectively quoted and omitted the context of my response which was as below:

“ma’am, we’re sorry but your son just died in Iraq. we sent a picture of his coffin to CNN, but don’t worry, we didn’t mark the coffin or anything!”

CNN report: “2 marines were killed in an ambush west of najaf yesterday. pfc ian smith of omaha and lance corporal mike rogers of seattle. on, and here’s a picture of 2 coffins, but we don’t know the dead soldiers are.” nudge, nudge wink, wink
Is this what happened, Flipper? Did the US military release the pictures as you claim in the latest of your puerile ripostes above?
Clearly, the above refers to the manner pointed out in your puerile response.

And, in my first post that began the thread, I quoted:
The Pentagon has reacted angrily to the publication on US websites of photos of America’s war dead arriving home.

Defence officials had banned publicity of the return of bodies from Iraq, but were forced to release images after a freedom-of-information court action.
The obvious point is the Pentagon strove to hold the pictures from publication, and only released them when compelled to do so under the freedom of information act.

Now, since Flipper has claimed our not viewing the unmarked and un-attributed coffins protects the families, would Flipper care to answer the question put to him twice, which he continues to avoid?
i dunno, maybe you should ask the families.

“ma’am, your son just died in Iraq. is it ok if we send the picture of his casket to CNN?”
Repeat:

I’m just curious CQ… what point is it that you are trying to make in this thread?

I ask so that in the future, I might better be able to remain on-topic…

Tigerman, everyone knows your clueless. You needn’t remind us.

Really? Who is my clueless?

No, seriously, don’t dodge the question, Queenie… clue me in…

What is the point of this thread?

My mistake. It should be you’re clueless. I guess the Jack Daniels was kicking in.
Here is how Kick himself describes what happened (from his website:
thememoryhole.org/war/coffin_photos/dover/)

"I filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the following:

‘All photographs showing caskets (or other devices) containing the remains of US military personnel at Dover AFB. This would include, but not be limited to, caskets arriving, caskets departing, and any funerary rites/rituals being performed. The timeframe for these photos is from 01 February 2003 to the present.’

I specified Dover because they process the remains of most, if not all, US military personnel killed overseas. Not surpisingly, my request was completely rejected. Not taking ‘no’ for an answer, I appealed on several grounds, and to my amazement, the ruling was reversed. The Air Force then sent me a CD containing 361 photographs of flag-draped coffins and the services welcoming the deceased soldiers.

Score one for freedom of information and the public’s right to know."
Wait, what do we know now? the us government in a secret plot sends back dead servicepeople in coffins? :unamused:

If you’re against the war more power to you but trying to cloak it as a battle for freedom of information is lame. freedom to wage pr battle with dead people is more like it
Oh, I see, Flipper. You must have a small brain as well as a big mouth, unless you just selectively quoted and omitted the context of my response which was as below:

if you cannot phrase your arguments properly, you can’t blame anyone for not understanding some hidden context. instead of trying to pin you down now that you’re creating a wonderful new context for your statements, i think it’s most effective just to keep posting the statements themselves:

btw, why are you editing your past posts? it just makes whatever you’re trying to say more confusing, especially when you quote what i say before i even say it.

Queenie,

I expect that the JD is no longer affecting you… would you please now advise as to the point you are trying to make in this thread?

It would help me out if you would just clue me in.

Hobbes,

Thank you for taking the time to explain the situation to me.

Just sorry to hear people are getting upset over the photo. If someone told me the photos were about a shipment of flags, I would have believed them also.
