If not they just hand you to their local thug ally of choice if they really want you to get busted up, CIA conveniently monitoring the proceedings of course. Obama has failed big time keeping Guantanamo open, even ignoring the fact that it is an occupied base in a foreign state.[/quote]
He will be a one hit wonder before he is turfed, but the damage is already done.
Bush and obama both support our current policy stance. Hmmmm and you
Think making obama a one term president will remedy this how? And anyone who calls guantanamo occupied territory is probably the type that really cannot understand why america has the current security structure.
If Obama does not win in 2012, the next president will be a Republican. Republicans will not change this policy.
To change it, we need to focus on Congress. We need to oust the Republicans, Teabaggers, corporatists, DINOS and Conservadems, and replace them with real progressives and sane libertarians (not the crazy right-wing kind). People who will fight for the interests of the People, and not be beholden to moneyed interests. With a congress filled with progressives and sane libertarians, there will be a popular mandate for change and a political force wiling to pursue it.
Here in North America, the idea of The Land Of The Free becoming tyranical and locking citizens away who are no legit terrorists is seen as kooky and ridiculous. I feel a lot of people are ignorant about what may be coming…
This is true. And relevant to the thread, the practices of both administrations have now been codified into statute by Congress and the president. It is the law of the land. Indefinite detention without trial will be the norm for terrorism suspects regardless of which party controls the White House.
