USB Fan - how to make your own

It’s getting hot again, and I will teach you how to make your own USB Powered Fan.

  • Warning* If you are known to stick yourself in the eye with chopsticks, spontaneous combustion, or just completely clueless when it comes to working with tools and computer equipment… DO NOT DO THIS. Just go to C3 and buy one for $300 NT*

you will need:
black Electric tape
a OLD Computer Fan - the bigger the better I use 4"
a USB Cable ( like one from an printer, which is usually very long.)
knife, scissors

do this:
Check and see how long of a USB Cable you will need, so that you dont cut it too short.
USB Cable - cut off the end that plugs into the printer, NOT the end that plugs into the computer.
Strip down the cable a bit, and you will see some foil and then about 4 wires: red, black, green, white.
pull down everything but the red and black wires ( these are the ones we need, so give yourself about 2 inches of space)
the green, white and foil can all be cut down back into the exterior of the USB Cable… you dont need them.
Red and black wires, stripe them about 1/2 inch.
Old Computer Fan cut off the molex connector ( that big chunky piece at the end of the two wires… which should be black and red.
again, strip down about 1/2 exposing the metal inside.

take both the USB and Fan wires… black to black, red to red - twist together firmly. I prefer to make a “hook” on both wires and then connect and then twist together.
wrap this with the black electric tape… seperately, and then wrap all of it around again both wires to make sure no wire is exposed… unless you feel like getting a nice zap and possibly frying your computer.
Plug it in… and enjoy… this cool breeze.
You can mod it by taking a coat hanger and fixing up your own type of holder so that you can place it an angle.
