Is it possible to use a SinoPac ATM card overseas at a Cirrus ATM? I vaguely remember being able to do so in Thailand, but when I went to the ATM here in Korea today, it didn’t work.
Often when you get an atm card in Taiwan, you have to specify that you want it enabled for overseas use. The default is Taiwan only, unless you check the right box/tell the bank. Are you sure you used it in Thailand? If so, then it should be ok. The only thing to watch for are the symbols on the machine. For example, your card will work in a cirrus network machine only if it is a cirrus card. Look for machines that have symbols found on your card and it should work.
And if international access is turned on, it is automatically turned off when your current visa expires. If you renew your visa, you must also take your new visa into the bank to get them to turn it on again.
It is the dumbest rule I have seen in Taiwan so far. You can access your money overseas while your visa is valid, if you have to leave and come back to renew your visa, your card wont work until you come back (:
