[V] TV Channel Manipulating Young Girls for Profit

Is it me, or does it seem that this TV channel continues to manipulate girls, for their own profit.

The continuing short skirts, bikinis, sexy outfits, accompanied by older men giving comments about the girls. Seems to be a low budget cheap porn channel.

And the hosts, who encourage the girls even more to dress and act sexy, or whatever they can get the girls to do. They throw them up in bikini half naked, make them stand there and video, for the SEX factor.

A sad portrayal of a girl’s or woman’s worth in Taiwan. And this is one of the main TV channels that young Taiwanese watch and pick up value clues from.

Wish these same entertainers and producers, would take the same openess then have from a great country like Taiwan, and use it better.

Actually, reflects society views as a whole.

so you weren’t a fan of Baywatch either?

Baywatch was women=+18 yrs old. MOst of the females on the show the OP is talking about are well under 18, some even 14 years young. They are still girls.

There is a big difference there.

Well, I’m not watching VTV since i’m not in TW. So, that’s for that clarification. Two, it was, nevermind…

What channel is that?

Interesting thought by the OP.

Is it only a localized interpretation of what is acceptable TV viewing? Does Taiwanese producers look at what is going on in the West and tailor it for their market?

If that is the case, then I’d have to agree that maybe they forgot to factor in how such programming can influence young women. I see some of the girls’ dance routines and I do feel that it’s a bit inappropriate. But that is only looking at the situation through my tinted glasses (fairly religious base while growing up, but not so any more).

I wonder how women aged 30-55 view this kind of show? It also makes me wonder if there are any regulating bodies that monitor such content.

I don’t have any kind of TV connection (neither broadcast nor cable), so I don’t see any of this stuff. But if the girls concerned have given their consent, what’s the problem? It doesn’t sound anything different to the way women and girls are systematically objectified in the West, and that’s all consensual also.

This has been the stock in trade for the Taiwanese variety since TV came to the country, and before that time from the ‘beef shows’. Girls want to be stars. You invite them on the show. Preferably they come in something skimpy. Your two resident, middle-aged sleazebags tease and make fun of her for one hour for each song she gets to sing.

And now you’re surprised this has spread to channel V? What did you think that was, Nat Geo or something?
What channel is that?
\

Yeah, what channel is this on?

Ahhh! The guilty pleasures of a bygone age. HEY! It was cultural studies. I wasn’t there for the good of my health, you know.

Can a 14 year-old-give informed consent to do this stuff? In the absence of parenting, the stations should have an age limit, maybe.

TV in Taiwan is remarkably free. The government has little influence over what get’s aired (there are, obviously, some standards regarding what can be shown and said on basic cable.) However, few groups exist to “police” the content aired, especially for women. I’ve observed that most Taiwanese are more concerned with political biases on TV, then sexual and violent content.

Channel V is on channel 78 in Taipei.

My opinion, these shows suck and hurt kids. THough most young girls I teach just see it as “cool” and mostly only emulate the fashion and dance, but there is some subliminal teaching of sex roles going on here. As a previous posted mentioned, this has been going on for ages, and still does, and still will. Hell, you can see strippers at funerals here. Women in Taiwan need more role models. Tsai Ying-wen (say what you want about the DPP) is a great one, as is the President’s wife. The problem is, you rarely see strong female roles on TV, in the news, or in movies. Even the latest hit, Cape No. 7, the female lead was a helpless female character seduced by a loser guy (ok, he could write and play music well.) Not to mention, all of the advertising puts women in homemaker roles. I’m rambling, I just fear for my daughter. It is cultural, and I h0ope parents begin to do a better job helping young women feel more empowered so they don’t find themselves on one of these shows.

Of course, foreign guys think it’s outrageous that Taiwanese girls are taught to act or think this way, which is why so may of us have decided to swear off them all together…not!

I once saw the Meimeis (this is the Shao Hei and his school of Meimeis that you are talking about right?) having to jump over things…and they blurred out every time the boobies fell out.

I think they get this from Japan. I once saw this show in Japan where the girls have to melt ice…and its a cylinder…so they suck on it…put it between their legs (NOT IN) etc, to melt it…

it’s completely crappy, but I’m sure the girls think they rock. Would have been fine if they were older…many of these girls are still in school!

Oh, and Shao Hei’s real life gf has a show with boys…who OF COURSE…hardly shows any skin…and just sings and plays basketball…silly things like that.
