I was looking at Bali and it seems like a good choice. I don’t want anywhere too busy and loud. Nothing like a party destination or super touristy. I just want to sit on the beach and not think about anything.

Bali is both super touristy and a party destination. I’ve heard it best described as “Cancun for Australians.” It does have some more remote beaches further from the airport, though. Same with Phuket.

Bali sucks. Everywhere between the airport and Ubud is super busy and super loud. There’s also plastic everywhere. The north half of the island is… OK, but I’ll be avoiding that place like the plague in the future.

Most people’s responses are going to be Southeast Asia, and that’s understandable, but what about Okinawa? Expensive yes, but they have some nice beaches. Or coastal Oregon? Hell of a commute, but Gold Beach is pretty.
