Vegetarian? No more chocolate bars for you!

That leaves more choccy for me :lick:

Are any of you vegetarians really going to stop eating those, because they have traces of whey, which contains traces of rennet? I mean, hey, I don’t eat cockroaches, but they tell me my peanut butter has traces of insect parts in it. :idunno:

I’ve been a strict vegetarian for the whole of my adult life. I would rather go painfully hungry than eat anything with bits of animal in it. I suppose I would probably eat meat or fish if I needed to do so to stay alive, but I haven’t been put to a test like that yet.

The use of rennet in cheese used to trouble me a lot, but cheese is such an important part of my diet, and it would be so hard to exclude eating all but rennet-free cheese, that I’ve come to accept it as compatible with my reasons for being vegetarian.

In much the same way, while I will be much less likely now to eat these tainted chocolate products, I won’t boycott them altogether.

You may also like to know that refined sugar is not vegetarian (ie is often a killing food by virtue of the way it is processed) so, really, candy bars have mostly never been vegetarian.

How so?

Hehe!

Wait till our next survivor hiking trip. You’ll be eating Chris. Actually we both will as he’s by far the larger of us three and could easily support you and me for a week.

If you consume refined sugar, there’s a good chance it encountered bone char in it’s granulation/ purification process. It’s an issue if you are veggie for ethical reasons.

I don’t like vegetarians anyway: they taste funny.

No whey i’m eating another one!

A very good friend of mine is a vegan and won’t eat most chocolate because of trace products.

He eats ‘Bouchard L’escaut’ dark chocolate as it contains no animal products whatsoever. You can buy that in Taiwan. It also tastes very good. Living with a vegan is quite an education.

Is it ok if you don’t eat it, e.g., just smear it all over your lover?

Oh, no, wait – then you’d want to eat it. Never mind.

Ask them here…

I now have one very sad vegetarian friend who previously had no idea that animal products (and insects!!) were used in making some candy. Sometimes it’s just best to remain ignorant.

It’s OK, folks!!!

They’ve changed their minds!.
Mars has abandoned plans to use animal products in its chocolate, and has apologised to “upset” vegetarians.

The firm had said it would change the whey used in some of its products from a vegetarian source to one with traces of the animal enzyme, rennet.
