Vent on the frustrations of Taiwan
Overall, Taiwan is a cool place but man stuff is getting to me

1-Foremost, I like to dress nicely and as much as it sounds a bit grandiouse I like to keep up with Trends. Taiwan has the worst fashion sense known to mankind. Literally, you can combine modern Japanese fashion, cheap end walmart garment and half-assed design work-and BAM you got Taiwan fashion. It kinda sucks because I had to shop for new clothes today-total pain in the ass. Probably gonna save up some cash and go to HK or BKK and buy as much clothes as I can.

Taiwan has it’s positives, but man the negatives kill me sometimes
While there are a few things that irk me here, the fashion sense of the Taiwanese would never ever bother me. I enjoy the freedom I have to let my hair grow as long as I might like it and or to shave it all off, to go without shaving for a couple of months, to wear inexpensive or expensive suits to the office, and to dress like a backpacking hippie when on my own time.

I love the fact that nobody ever comments negatively on my fashion sense… well, nobody other than Tpebob.

When people ask me: 你們外國人每天都吃什麼? (What do y’all foreigners eat every day?)

As if we all eat the same thing every day.

Well, ask any Taiwanese person what they eat every day, and 99 out of 100 will say, “Rice, meat, and vegetables.”

I guess with me, what I wear affects my mood. I feel a greater sense of confidence when I look in the mirror and like what I’m wearing—just me though

All you Forumosans who think that Taiwanese are simply unaware when they walk slowly, or cut in line, or whatever should try adopting the same behavior. It’s not really possible, cause if you have white skin, everyone is generally aware of you. But I got sick of being cut in front of at a store once and jumped in front of the next guy who tried to hedge me out. That really pissed everyone off, as I was such a rude foreigner!

Take them by the elbow, manoeuvre them to the back of the line, and tell them loudly in front of all the other customers that they are being rude for pushing in in front of all these people. Public shaming works so well here, especially by a foreigner. If they still try to wriggle free, quickly give a hard squeeze to the ulnar nerve where it crosses the elbow (the funny bone). Works a treat as they can’t feel their hand for a while.

Aaaahahaha. The beauty of knowing the human anatomy. Delicious.

And I absolutely cannot stand slow walkers…especially groups of them that block the entire sidewalk. But my (American) classmates also complain that I walk fast, so I don’t feel it’s just a Taiwanese thing. There are slow walkers everywhere.

I’m personally irked that my family bets with each other about the race of my future husband. Especially when they ask me if I would marry a black person.

And also when they say I’m being “cute” for enjoying the outdoors and the sun. (I am not cute).

I live in an area of Taipei where construction workers seem to be everywhere—especially where I like to run. I can’t run anywhere without getting the same dumb comments over and over again. “Welcome to taiwan” “Where you come from?” Etc.

Sometimes I just lose my cool completely…it’s amazing how quickly they shut up when I walk right over to them and ask them what their problem is. They never expect that from a girl much younger than they are.

Other than the annoying construction workers, it bugs me when older women walk over to my shopping cart and analyze its contents.

Oh—and there are several ladies at the gym who sweat buckets all over the machines and NEVER wipe them off. It’s disgusting. They expect the gym staff to clean up after them. But the trainers just turn a blind eye. I mean, who wants to wipe down an entire elliptical machine coated in sweat?
it bugs me when older women walk over to my shopping cart and analyze its contents.
That always bugs me too. What’s in my cart is my business! If they get too nosy with this, or I’m in a bad mood, I will ask wtf they’re looking for in my basket that isn’t on the shelves. “Go find your own damn food!”

please restrict your fetish adverts to the personal classifieds section, thanks.

taiwanese originally came from the appalachians   or was it the ozarks?

What really pisses me off is when they start speaking Mandarin. I’m like WTF! Go spend thousands of dollars and go learn English, cheap bastards!

Oh, we do. My god! How we do!

I thought that was an ad too. I was like “what? You mean I wouldn’t even have to pay? And I could bring my own `cloth?'”

Sick and wrong.
