I do think the younger set use tattoos for self affirmation for a sense of belonging and a natural ice breaker. To be cool

Smoking in the 80s was the opposite of cool, btw. I mean, realistically, everything was.
Tattoos are not cool to us but they are cool to the teens and tweeners today
