‘Violent house’ sale leads to eight-month jail term

Yeah the 8 months is excessive IMHO, a fine would suffice. But look at this from a different angle, different countries have different cultures.

If you were to tell a man from Guangzhou that Michael Vicks got a 3 year sentence for harming dogs, he would look at you with the same bewilded look and go “what the heck?”

I think the key point is that, aside from the issue of superstitions, there was a financial gain/loss – essentially it was something akin to fraud. As to the cultural issues here, it’s probably worth noting that the Japanese have apparently spent the past several years making lots and lots of horror movies aimed specifically at subsequent residents in such blighted homes and apartment buildings. Sure the Amityville Horror came first, but the Japanese have done a fabulous job of making suspense/horror flicks on the theme in recent years.
