Visa Exempt Entry Problem

Hi, I’m Mike.
This is my first post. I’ve arrived in Taiwan and found out that I could only stay for 30 days. But my return ticket is in 33 days.
So I’m wondering if its okay to leave 3days later than the visa exempt.

As long as you dont mind not being allowed back into Taiwan because you overstayed.

I did something similar. When I arrived at the airport and tried to check in I was directed to some kind of ‘naughty desk’ and had to pay a small fine. NT$2000? Can’t remember exactly but something like that. They asked why but they didn’t really care too much. Just be apologetic and polite. They put a stamp in my passport preventing me from getting a landing visa (visa on arrival) for one year. I could still apply for a visa from overseas though and in fact I flew to Hong Kong, got a visa there and flew back into Taipei the same day without any problems.

So, in total: I got a small fine and the loss of landing visa privileges for one year.

What country are you from? So many countries now get 90 days. IF you should get 90 but only got a 30 day stamp, go see the immigration police and have that sorted.

I’m from Australia. Yeah i bought the ticket without knowing much about visa.
So my sister and i would get fined and temporary banned from re entry to taiwan?
is there anything i should worry about?

You can’t change your flight? I thought this would be difficult but it really wasn’t and didn’t cost that much.

An overstay of only a few days may not result in a fine. You won’t be banned. You just lose your right to come into Taiwan Visa Free for one year. Meaning you can return again but you must apply and receive a visa BEFORE you arrive in Taiwan.

Not really and you probably won’t be banned from re-entry. Just banned from a getting a landing visa.

What would happen if you go to the airport to check-in on the day your visa free entry expires? Would they let you go through, and pass immigration? Then return through immigration/police … would they let you enter Taiwan again, 30 day visa free?

You can leave up to the very last day , but you can not re-enter taiwan without physically leaving the island. Its not a matter of going thru immigration and coming back in immigration. You need to physically leave the country. You can then come right back in that same day for a refresh on your visa free.

Many have done this.

Being a fellow Aussie, I find it hard to believe that you didn’t check the Visa/stay requirements before you arrived.

Change your ticket, leave while you are still legal.

Don’t give the rest of us a bad reputation by overstaying…its things like that which they take into consideration when looking at giving us Aussies 90 days - which won’t happen if people follow your example and overstay, no matter how long.

Try that stunt in say the USA and you will probably get to wear some free bracelets - with locks - until they escort you onto the aircraft.

True , except being illegal in the USA you can probably stay quite a long time. You are not likely to be deported or caught. Just have a hard time coming back in (if ever) once you are caught and deported or left.
