Visa free, visitor visa or working holiday visa?

Hello,

I plan to teach English in Taiwan for a year, starting January. Most of the advice online says go to Taiwan as a visitor, find a job, and then have your employer convert it to an ARC. However I have seen people say both go on a visitor visa and go visa free, so not sure which is best. I could also go on a working holiday visa, but I haven’t seen anyone advise that. Is that because it’s not available to Americans so just not talked about or is that a bad idea?

The Taiwan WHV is not available to Americans.

More information can be found in this thread:

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, I am not American, it’s available to my nationality, so thats fine. Just wondering why I couldnt find any info on it. Seems like the 6 month maximum with one employer may rule out many of the cram schools, and there’ll be a lot of trouble with people who’ve never heard of it.

If I instead go for the visa-free option, will I need to show a ticket to Hong Kong before the 90 days is up to get in?
