<visa question> planning to visit hongkong

I’m planning to visit Hong kong this month. I have a 3 year resident visa. My boss says it’s ok if I took some time off but he’s worried that I wouldn’t be allowed to enter taiwan after my vacation. Do I need extra papers to go in and out of taiwan even if I possess a resident visa?

You have 15 days after entering Taiwan on your resident visa to get an Alien Resident Certificate. I will assume you have a 3-year ARC, because resident visas don’t usually last that long. At the same time as applying for your ARC you can apply for a re-entry permit which will be a half-page sticker put in your passport. If you have a valid re-entry permit in your passport and a valid ARC, you will have no problem coming back to Taiwan. If you have an ARC but didn’t apply for a re-entry permit, go back to the Foreign Affairs Police branch with your ARC and passport and you can get one free and it is done on the spot. Fill out the same form as for your ARC but check the Re-entry Permit box. If you don’t have an ARC and it has been more than 15 days, you’re screwed.

thanks! that was very informative. I do have a reentry sticker. Well, I’m off then! :bravo:
