I’m sure this has been brought up on here often, but I need some information. My girlfriend has just quit her job and will likely have her ARC cancelled next Friday. So a visa run in the future is in order. Just a few questions about this. Is it difficult to get a 60 day visitors visa after already having an ARC? Can anyone recommend which TECOs are the best to go to(quick process time, less scrutiny, etc.)? What forms and documents are needed in advance to apply for a new visitors visa? What fees are involved and are they payable in NT? How long does it take for a visitors visa to be processed? Do TECOs tend to be opened on the weekends (my guess would be probably not) or would the run have to be made during the week? Does anyone have any contact info or addresses for TECO offices? I know it’s a lot of questions, but any information would be appreciated.
I had no problems getting visa-exempt entry once the ARC had been cancelled, though on my first entry it turned out that the ARC hadn’t actually been cancelled so they had to let me in on that again. About a year later I got a 60-day visa at the TECO and there no issues at all. A bit different from your situation, I know.
I’d recommend considering the Saigon TECO.
Pros:
- I’ve read horror stories about other TECOs. Saigon seems to be easier going. Perhaps because its not an obvious visa-run destination. The staff were mostly local, but the Taiwanese staff there had a friendly attitude.
- You get to see Saigon if you haven’t so far. Lovely place (though the TECO location is nothing fantistic.)
Cos:
- You/you’re girlfriend will probably need a visa for Vietnam
- Normal flights to Saigon are more expensive than BKK/HKG etc. (You could get something cheap ticket on pacificairlines.com.vn/)
- I doubt whether they’ll cope with anything “on the spot” - they are very busy with wives+the odd Vietnamese business traveller. But overnighting in Saigon is cheap.
I only got a 60-day non-extendable visa. I didn’t need nor ask for anything else. I had no “paperwork” with me. Basically I had planned on entering Taiwan for just 30 days on visa-exempt entry, but with 2 days left in Vietnam my planned changed. Yhey suggested the easiest way was to get a faxed guarantee from Taiwan and that was enough.
