Wack Things in Taiwan 2025

Did she withdraw the money ready to wire it? Why is money pictured on the table?

Taiwanese YouTubers with a channel with 1.1 million subscribers sets off fire crackers in a tunnel disturbing the bats on Yangmingshan in an area that requires approval from the relevant authority to access. The relevant authority is surprised to find out they went to that area and are investigating. Bats may have been severely injured due to the loud noise from the firecrackers. The area is a 150yr. old historical site too…

The irony is their YouTube channel is called “欸你這週要幹嘛” “Hey what are you doing this week”… :man_facepalming:

I have accompanied my wife a hundred times to various temples. She has put my name up on lanterns and other stuff at temples for good luck…and various other stuff. I went along with this as seems to make her happy.

Recently we went to local temple and they just happen to be having a special “lucky” festival. The temple was crowded. My wife decided to join since already there. They collected some money from everybody…even soliciting small change from the children. They did various chants and then went to the parking lot where they had a big bonfire. Everyone held hands and walked around the bonfire back and forth. When finished I told the wife to no longer hang my name on various items in temples. This event had a strange vibe which I have not experienced at temples before. I admit I do avoid gatherings like those large Matsu gathering with people lying down on the road as Matsu is carried over them…or those events with loads of fireworks. But this event looked like some satan worshippers seen in movies. I know that sounds like an exaggeration but this group of worshippers and the temple’s methodology just made me uncomfortable.

There are certainly dark-side temples but they tend to be small, quiet, and focused on individual concerns. This sounds culty which is even less unusual, but doesn’t sound like anything really weird or disturbing was happening in full view at least?

Send google link to the temple?

I surmise that it was the vibe. @Flakman got the inner spidey sense to get the hell out of there.

People holding hands and circling back and forth around big bonfire while chanting…just really is the wrong vibe for me. Were not sacrificing small babies but that was enough for me.

Fengshan Marathon in Kaoshiung used a rifle as the design for the trophies since the route passes by 3 military academies. The problem is the rifle is the one used by China’s PLA, the Type-95/QBZ-95. :man_facepalming:

Now we gotta not only look out for deadly traffic, but killer dogs jumping out of cars to bite your leg off.

That story was posted 10 days by @lunlan in this same thread. Did I miss something?

Jeezus what is that dog still doing around town?!?

EDIT: You are absolutely right. :grimacing:

NB: Dog pictured above is NOT the dog involved in these incidents.

According to the report above, the problematic pitbull is reportedly called “Lucky.” How many more chances will it get?

Fear not! The police will issue the maximum fine of NT$600 for this second incident.

The wife said she saw in a report that the dog has also bitten the owner and the owner’s wife.

Never seen a tu gou or a shiba jump out of a car window before.

Taiwan ain’t the place for pitbulls. I have just read that they are banned now, but still this owner is some next level fool.

Once is an accident. Twice…is more than carelessness. This is all on the owner.

For starters, something has the dog worked up, tense, reactive, ready to pounce. Owner problem definitely.

Owner leaves doors unlocked. No child lock with a dog in tow? Even taxis lock up. Yes, windows can be locked. Didn’t he learn from last time? Again, the owner, not the dog problem. Not even a leash?!?! Especially necessary after the dog has had an incident before.

If the dog gets tense enough to attack at random anytime the owner gets him in a car, why does the owner get the dog in a car?!?!

Please note this happened at an entirely different location. Does the owner drive around with the dog regularly, for fun? Ain’t fun for the dog. What’s up with that?

This kind of dog could be the sweetest thing. Originally, this breed was a family dog, a child nanny dog. This dog attacking at random raises all kinds of bells. The dog must be raised that way to react that way. Where did the owner get the dog? What kind of training is the dog receiving at home? Is it getting enough exercise to release energy? Is it being mistreated in any way? Has it been trained to attack, to be over defensive?

Narrator: He did not leash the dog.

What will be officials excuse now not to seize the dog?
