I really want to teach elementary level (particularly 3-5 graders)…But are buxibans usually elementary, middle, and high school or just for high school students?? I am coming to Taiwan to look for work in June. With no experience and no TESOL certificate, will it be unlikely that I will be able to be picky and look for elementary only? Is elementary level easier or harder to find?
Also, why is it that none of the ads on tealit for teaching jobs mention what ages the children are!??
The main target market for buxibans are 6-12 year old kids. No experience or TEFOL cert. won’t be much of a hindrance to finding employment. The job market in Taipei is supposed to be pretty bad at the moment, though.
You might be limiting your teaching hours if you only teach 6-12 year olds. They tend to study in the evening, a couple of afternoons, and on weekends. I’m not sure if you would be able to get much more than 20 hours a week just teaching that age group. I’m happy to be corrected, though, as I don’t teach that age group anymore .

Do buxibans usually hire only a few days a week? I’m hoping I can get a contract in June for 30-40 hours a week at one school. Is this an unrealistic expectation? You say I may not be able to find over 20 hours limiting to 6-12…But if buxibans are only 6-12 than what else is there? Thanks for your reply and help.
