Was definitely worth it for me. I had to renounce my Indian citizenship but was able to get back an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) status, which gives you almost all the benefits of an Indian Citizen except voting rights.
As for all the benefits I receive as a Citizen, there are simply too many to list here… I get rent subsidies, other welfare benefits, my daughter gets first preference choosing schools (due to our special status as a low income family), our school tuition fees are all waived for my 4 kids, they get breakfast and lunch coupons all year round, they get free after-school tuition (課後班), I get free goodies (rice, cooking oil, 泡麵,紅包) for all festivals, we got the bonus for giving birth to a child, our NHI premiums are all free, we get a 50nt discount for any doctor/dentist visits, hospital stays are free, my wife has free 國民年金 etc. All of these wouldn’t have been possible without holding an ID… And let’s not talk about all the places that don’t accept an ARC or APRC.
