Well, here’s a pleasant surprise. Not just a new Rolling Stones recording – a cover of the Bob Dylan tune, “Watching the River Flow” – but one that features a casually charismatic lead vocal by Mick Jagger, and bass playing by the band’s original bassist, Bill Wyman (recording with the group for the first time since 1992).
The track was recorded for an album that will pay tribute to the late Rolling Stones keyboardist, Ian Stewart. Spearheaded by pianist Ben Waters, “Boogie 4 Stu: A Tribute to Ian Stewart” will be released on April 19, and will feature various Stones on various other tracks.
Stewart, who also served as the Stones’ road manager and was a central figure in the band’s history from their earliest days, died of a heart attack in 1985, at the age of 47.
