So, I was hoping someone here might know where one can purchase parsnips in Taiwan, as I’d really like to get some to roast for Christmas dinner.
It might not be very traditional Christmas food, but I was going to go a bit untraditional anyhow and do a roast leg of lamb.
I have never seen them on sale here so any pointers?
Never seen them here either, but we always have them for Xmas at home. I love parsnips, and roasted (perhaps with a hint of garlic), what a great dish. Worthy of a picture. Hope you track some down. A true gladiator of a vegetable

I also LOVE roasted parsnips for xmas dinner, Im a timmings fan and normally just east all the veg, esp roated spuds and PARSNIPS
I havent even seen the seed here to grow your own. You can use carrot, its not quite as good, but works.

Parsnips require a frost to bring out the flavor. Why you’d expect to find them in a semi-tropical island is a mystery. A bit like trying to find decent cooking apples or gooseberries.
Can’t deny they would be nice though.Maybe the folks at Jasons could get their hands on some frozen ones?

P & P lists them in their catalog but they don’t always immediately have everything listed and a 5 kilo box may be a few more than you need.

I didn’t find them listed by P&P when I had a look the other day, hence why I asked here.
Never heard that parsnips had to be frost bitten, especially as they grow underground. They sell them all year around in the UK and back home so I figured they weren’t anything all that special as they grow just like carrots.
Anyone interested in splitting the 5kg box if the price is reasonable? 
I’m sure I could go through 2kg, but not any more.

Parsnips, like turnips, need a good frost on them to break down the starch into sugar or something (not exactly sure). Of course you CAN eat them without a frost, but they’d be so starchy and awful that I can’t imagine anyone actually doing so. I never knew they were sold year-round in UK, either – they were strictly a late autumn/winter veggie when I lived there.

My catalog shows them as a stocked item. When I was in their fridge room, I didn’t see them. Maybe discontinued, but I am not sure. I offer the input only as a suggestion as a place that may have them. If you find them. I am on for 2 pounds. Just enough for mashed parsnips and carrots that I so dearly love for the holidays.
In some alternate universe exists a thread by TheLostParsnip, asking ‘Where can I find swedes?’
Hey, I’m up for some Swede too, but that seem to be equally impossible to find here… (mashed swede served with salted pig legs, boiled, not grilled and mustard… :hungry: )

I guess the Taiwanese aren’t huge fans of root vegetables, or something…

Hmmm snadman is correect - frost turns starch to sugar and they are only harvestted aug-april

In my experience, it’s worth asking them. They have lots of stuff tucked away out of site, unlike a grocery store. If there’s enough interest they can get anything you want, supposedly.
