WCIF Spinach

I just went through the traditional market, A Mart and Welcome and none of them had spinach - help!

Oh, there’s spinach here. Just keep going back and you’ll see it at least half of the time. At least that’s my experience.

I bought spinach from the Wellcome at Guting just last week. I don’t know how regularly they get deliveries of it, though.

Spinach is everywhere. Ask your local wet market grandma, she has it.

Whats the chinese word for spinach? I forgot.

Over here, at trader joes, a small pack (good for one stir fry portion for one person) is like 2 bucks.

Carrefour tends to have it, but not always.

It’s been surprisingly hard to find lately - I haven’t seen it at Wellcomes or PX Marts in the Danshui area in a while, although I did see it at the Tianmu City Super last night. (The City Super had no baby spinach - something that is much harder to find here than normal spinach.) I haven’t checked in wet markets because… um… well, I’m not very good at identifying these things by sight, and my history with asking for foods in wet markets is not good.

The recent lack of spinach does confuse me. I’ve almost always been able to find it before; the absence is also quite annoying, seeing as how spinach is pretty much the only salad green here that I use on sandwiches.

Chinese: 菠菜, if I remember right.

Anyway, spinach has been a bit scarce lately. Maybe this summer was too hot for it and it all wilted?
