Hi, does anyone know where I can find a prepared turkey for Thanksgiving? I’ve heard that you could order from certain restaurants in Taipei. Thanks. Gobble gobble!
Jakes Country Kitchen has 'em. Probably most major hotels.
Does anyone know of places that you can order a whole cooked turkey for Christmas?
I’ve heard that Wellcome does it for $1199 ($1399 if delivered to your house), but am a bit dubious about how good it would be.
I’ve also heard rumours about Howard Hotel, Q Bar and the Hilton
Does anyone have any recommendations (with prices)?

I’ve always gone with Howards and been happy.
Thanks Mucha Man, would you mind telling me how to order and how much the turkey costs (and how many people it feeds!).

Just call the hotel. I can’t remember exactly how much it costs but I think NT2500. It is a big bird. The one I order could feed 6-8 no problem. I think they have different sizes (weights). You get gravy and a pie as well if I remember correctly (I was here last Christmas so I forget some details). They give you an organ stuffing as well but not eevn my Taiwanese friends will eat it.
Where is the best place to find a (pre-cooked) turkey for Thanksgiving?
Neihu Costco said they had turkeys, 5kg., cooked, $1999NT, but have to pay first, pick up later, a bit of a hassle for the car-less. I had it last year and it was okay but not great. Maybe I should look for a ham instead, they seem to know their ham here.
There are ads in the back of the Taipei Times, including Jake’s Country Kitchen, but that got panned by hungrygirl in taipei blog.
Cooking your own bird, maybe start with a search for “Where Can I Find…” an oven.
I’m not sure why this thread got put in the Temporary Forum. Is the moderator a vegan When you search for Turkey, you get stuff from a year ago, and the situation changes every year. Second of all, when you censored the post, you recommended the Food Forum “This is the place for Forumosans to post recipes, cooking tips and culinary-related discussions.” which doesn’t sound applicable. Lastly when you search for Turkey you find a lot of posts about the country, not the bird.
I just bought a frozen, American turkey from Hsinchu Costco for $699NT in the frozen food section. Interestingly, yesterday I went to the meat department because a friend told me that turkeys needed to be special ordered (this is my first Thanksgiving in Taiwan). So they found someone in the meat department to help me that spoke some English. After he was almost done writing up the order I realized that he had one of the shelf tags (with the register code & price on it, but I didn’t see the price) that was for a cooked turkey. I told him that I wanted a fresh or frozen turkey so he changed my order but was told that the price was the same. I went to the register to pay (was told I had to on a special order) and the total for each approximately 11 pound bird was $1999NT. I almost had a stroke! So I said thank you but never mind, I was not going to pay over $60US for an 11 pound turkey. So today I called another friend and she told me exactly where the turkeys were in the frozen food department. I went there today and bought the frozen turkey. Now I love Costco but I don’t think that the meat department and the frozen food department have any communication. I did not see a supervisor near the check out today but when I go back I am going to talk to them about this issue.
I’ve heard about those places. Dunno if I’d want to buy a turkey off them, though.
That’s fine; please append your request to existing threads on the same topic rather than starting new ones. This way searchers don’t need to open multiple threads to look for relevant information. Feel free to disregard any out-of-date information early in the thread; in fact, very often the information is still good (most places do the same turkey offer annually) but you are welcome to ask for fresh info at the end of the existing thread. I’d suggest you also check Jason’s, by the way.
You are looking for take-home food, such as from Costco, so the Food Forum is relevant. Searches for ingredients also go there. The description is not all-inclusive. You may also wish to check the Restaurants area for take-out turkeys from restaurants.
If you search topic titles only and return threads as results, there are only 24 hits, which all fits on one page, and it is a simple matter to scroll down to find "WCIF whole prepared (cooked) turkey? ":
search.php?keywords=turkey&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=titleonly&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
If I can be of any further help, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
