A previous co-teacher of mine is getting married and I’d like to get her something as a present. She invited me to the wedding, but since it’s in Taiwan and I’m in the US, I can’t attend. She’s in her mid/late 20s and they’re having a small, impromtu ceremony in Taibei County. They already have an apartment together and are pretty well situated. She lived in NYC for awhile with me, but I can only think to either send books or something silly from the City – but just about everything here can be found there.
What’s a typical wedding gift? Should I just send money? A gift card? If so, how much would you give?

Is your friend a Westerner or from Taiwan? (Or from elsewhere?) This is an important factor to consider when giving advice on this issue, because the Chinese/Taiwanese tradition is to give money.
