Wedding gift for a friend -- what would you do?

A previous co-teacher of mine is getting married and I’d like to get her something as a present. She invited me to the wedding, but since it’s in Taiwan and I’m in the US, I can’t attend. She’s in her mid/late 20s and they’re having a small, impromtu ceremony in Taibei County. They already have an apartment together and are pretty well situated. She lived in NYC for awhile with me, but I can only think to either send books or something silly from the City – but just about everything here can be found there. :idunno:

What’s a typical wedding gift? Should I just send money? A gift card? If so, how much would you give?

Thanks!

Is your friend a Westerner or from Taiwan? (Or from elsewhere?) This is an important factor to consider when giving advice on this issue, because the Chinese/Taiwanese tradition is to give money.

She’s Taiwanese.

$$$ I suppose would be best. Any suggestions on how much? Do you think it will be safe to send via post?

Gift will be Ok,too.
Since you are in US,sending money is not convenient.

Piece of art from America.

Great idea. Thanks!
