Wedding Songs

What was the first dance at your wedding, where the bride and groom dance?

(If you haven’t had a wedding, piss off to the Hating Kids thread with the other overage adolescent yuppie pricks)

We didn’t dance at our wedding, so STFU newb!

From the look of your avatar, I’m guessing yours was “YMCA”.

Oh yeah, I heard in Ireland they outlawed shagging standing up because they reckoned it led to dancing.
Oh wait, that was the Republic.
OK, never mind…

Naruwan by the Betelnut Brothers. Wasn’t a dancing kind of wedding, though. I played with that band just a few weeks ago at our Huashan show. Which was pretty damn nice. I even gret.

Na dancing here either. But did get to play with explosives and drink a lot

 Told you to keep Chopper.

Three Times A Lady by Lionel Ritchie

Tripple cringe factor, I know. But it was difficult to find a three-stepper.

Yeah, yeah, fnarrr, come on, answer the damn question, din scht

Now, see, that’s cute.
(Except it’s technically The Commodores)
I think there’s a non-embarrassment clause for wedding songs.
I assume your wife chose the music, yes?

What kind of a weinie doesn’t dance at their own wedding (Sandman gets a pass because he played)?

I dint play at my wedding. I was way too wasted for that. Plus, I was trying to peel my friend’s bare nuts off the window of the next-door coffee shop.

I didn’t dance either. We went to the Justice of the Peace at the Shilin courthouse. There was another couple that got married too and we didn’t even know them.

“I like Chinese” by Monty Python may get a laugh

My husband sang “Longer” while I walked down the “aisle” with my father. That was pretty nice. Actually, it was wonderful.

Longer
Dan Fogelberg

Longer than there’ve been fishes in the ocean
Higher than any bird ever flew
Longer than there’ve been stars up in the heavens
I’ve been in love with you

Stronger than any mountain cathedral
Truer than any tree ever grew
Deeper than any forest primeval
I am in love with you

I’ll bring fire in the winters

You’ll send showers in the spring
We’ll fly through the falls and summers
With love on our wings

Through the years as the fire starts to mellow
Blurring lines in the book of our lives
Though the binding’s cracked and the pages start to yellow
I’ll be in love with you
I’ll be in love with you

Later, my family sang Pokarekareana.

Māori:
Pōkarekare ana
ngā wai o Waiapu,
Whiti atu koe hine
marino ana e.
E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

Tuhituhi raku reta
tuku atu taku rīngi,
Kia kite tō iwi
raru raru ana e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

Whati whati taku pene
ka pau aku pepa,
Ko taku aroha
mau tonu ana e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

E kore te aroha
e maroke i te rā,
Mākūkū tonu i
aku roimata e.

E hine e
hoki mai ra,
Ka mate ahau
I te aroha e.

English translation:
Rippling are
the waters of Waiapu,
cross over girl
'tis calm.
Oh girl
return here (to me),
For I shall die
because of love (for you).

I have written my letter
I have sent my ring,
So that your people can see
(that I am) troubled.

Oh girl
return here (to me),
For I shall die
because of love (for you).

My pen is shattered,
I have no more paper,
(But) my love
is still steadfast.

Oh girl
return here (to me),
For I shall die
because of love (for you).

(My) love will never
be dried by the sun,
It will be forever moistened
by my tears.

Oh girl
return here (to me),
For I shall die
because of love (for you).

I don’t think the Chinese restaurant staff knew quite what to make of our wedding… it was probably the first time the guests stayed until after the farewell music, they said they were waiting to see what else we had lined up

Well, I only had a traditional Chinese wedding 'cause I had no money for a Western one. My biggest fear was that one or the relatives was going to invite a travelling stripper truck. :noway:

Wild Is The Wind - David Bowie

Love me, love me, love me, say you do
Let me fly away with you
For my love is like the wind, and wild is the wind
Wild is the wind
Give me more than one caress, satisfy this hungriness
Let the wind blow through your heart
For wild is the wind, wild is the wind

[CHORUS]
You touch me,
I hear the sound of mandolins
You kiss me
With your kiss my life begins
You’re spring to me, all things to me
Don’t you know, you’re life itself!

Like the leaf clings to the tree,
Oh, my darling, cling to me
For we’re like creatures of the wind, and wild is the wind
Wild is the wind

[CHORUS]

Like the leaf clings to the tree,
Oh, my darling, cling to me
For we’re like creatures in the wind, and wild is the wind
Wild is the wind

It’ll always have a special place in my heart…kisses, sweetie…

Ours was “One Year of Love” by Queen. It fit because we had been together for just about one year when we tied the knot.

Our real song (every couple has one, right? ) is “Creep” by Radiohead, but we decided it might offend Grandma if we played it at the wedding. :rainbow:

Love Creep! But how would one dance to it?

Love Creep! But how would one dance to it?[/quote]

Don’t know really…we never used it or even thought of using it because we knew it would offend so much of our family! I guess it would look really wierd dancing to it, now that I think about it… :astonished:
