Unfortunately, although the dust would be bad enough just by itself, it picks up huge amounts of very nasty industrial pollution on its way down across China, and is therefore far worse and extremely harmful to our health by the time it hits Taiwan.
I edited a paper for a Public Health professor about particulate levels in taichung. The results were scary. Particulate levels are extremely high in this part of the country. Many many times higher than levels in other cities like Taipei, Los Angeles, etc.
Cough, cough.
It’s payback for all the wonderful weather y’all have down there…er, I mean, it’s because you don’t have mountains on either side of you to protect you from the pollutants from China.
My allergies have been off the scale these few weeks and it doesn’t help that there’s a mosquito baby boom going on…then again, things could be worse…
