I thought this was a just a silly quiz with random results, but it absolutely nailed my accent. It also got everyone I know right too. Give it a try, but remember it’s only made to locate American accents, not those silly foreign ones.

“Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.”
It says I have a Midland accent, “which means you don’t have an accent at all”. But I’m Canadian, from the West.
Interesting. It was right on the money for mine.

Yup.
“The West. Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.”
I’m Australian and I got “Your Result: The Northeast”.
“The Inland North” was my first result with “Philadelphia” in second.
Yup.

Same here. I guess I got the Dallas accent.

They needed to add “how do you say heart”

Mine too. We talk normal.
Good answer. I always thought it was strange if someone says I have an accent (I don’t get that often, but it has happened), because I spent a few years in Northern Cal, a few in Mass, a few in NY, a few in So Cal., a few in Oregon and now a few in Taiwan. I would think that evens out to no accent. So I appreciated the confirmation.
I was surprised, though, because it appeared to me the test was just a big joke and I was waiting for the punchline.
I got midland too.
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland
“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
The West
The South
Boston
The Inland North
North Central
Philadelphia
The Northeast
I’m also the lowest common denominator- cept if I talk you’d probably detect the hint of socal surfer…

“North Central” is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw “Fargo” you probably didn’t think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.
LOL, I am Canadian so I guess that works.
I got the ‘midland / no accent’, which is spot on. I am from Dallas but I do not have a southern drawl. Nobody ever guesses I am from Texas before they know.
For some reason my brother and I have no accent; but my sister, mom, and dad all have obvious southern accents.

I heard that the local mailman doesn’t have an accent either

Yeah, I know, you don’t believe it. This is kind of like I don’t believe people on this board when they say they don’t have a discernible accent when they speak chinese. Regardless, it’s not that uncommon for people who grow up in Dallas/Austin/Houston to not end up with a southern drawl.
The key question for the Minnesota accent is whether you pronounce “bag” as if it rhymes with “vague”.

Some people my sister knows came to our hometown (Saskatoon) and were amused (to the point of hysteria) by our accents. They kept on exclaiming “But you sound just like the people in ‘Fargo’!”
