What bank .... if I want to invest in stocks

I want to open an account at a bank but I am unsure what bank to open an account with. I have seen in other posts that you need to have up to a $150 000 deposit just to open an account at HSBC or Citibank. I was thinking about one of these banks but didn’t think that you needed such a sum of money to open an account. I really want to start investing money in the stock market but now I don’t know what bank to do it at. Does anyone have any recomendations, as to what a good bank to start investing with?

Thanks

why do you wanna go through a bank? why not just go through an online trading co?

Many of the foreign banks in Taiwan do make you put a shitload of money in the bank just to open an account. If you want to trade, invest, get an ira…why not just do it through an online trading co?

I use Scottrade and it’s fine…IMHO.

Thanks for the insight,

If you use Scottrade how do you get the money to them. You still need a bank account of some sort, don’t you? And what if you sell how do you get the money. I’m assuming it goes into a bank account, right? What about the taxes I am not a Taiwanese citizen.

if you want to invest in tw stock, I’ve heard good things about Fubon Bank.

To open an account with Scottrade, you need a check for at least US 500$ drawn from a US bank. After that, you can wire the money into your acct.

If you want to withdraw money from your trading acct, you can have it wired to your bank…but there’s a charge for that…like 20US $
