I could bear the traffic, pollution, and even the stench of stinky tofu, but this half-assed approach to law enforcement is the reason I could never live in Taiwan long-term. Every awful employer gets a tap on the wrist or receives “mediation” instead of suffering consequences from the government actually doing its job. Imagine getting off with a fine of $1000 USD in the West for exploiting a worker like this (and forcing a Muslim to handle pork!).

This is not true. Have you ever been to Indonesia? The vast majority of Muslim women do not wear head dresses unless they are going to mosque. And in Taiwan they all wear t shirts and jeans, never saw a Muslim guest worker in head dress or burka.
Maybe not in Bali, but the majority of muslim women elsewhere in Indonesia do wear them. I suspect the workers here take them off when they arrive in Taiwan… or they are Chinese Indonesians etc.

I’ve seen plenty of Indonesian caregivers in Taiwan wearing the headscarves. It’s probably some of them don’t wear it here to blend in more or because they don’t feel pressured to wear it of course.

Chinese Indonesians as foreign workers in Taiwan? Never seen one.
Many don’t wear head coverings when the get here, but many do as well. The young lady who is taking care of a nasty old hag nearby is a non-head covering wearing girl. But, the previous ones all wore one type or another.
Go to a hospital and see all the caregivers looking after grandma and grandpa. So many wear the Hijab, Shayla, Al-Amira or Khimar.
I see one of these ladies out and about and immediately my heart starts racing and I reach down to my hip to caress the grip of my .45 which is no longer there!
I spoke with one, she was working in a factory. I didn’t find out whether she was a foreign worker, or a study and then TARC forever… but is there much difference?

A Chinese Indonesian, who is studying in Taiwan, usually on scholarship and then works a part time job in conjunction with their studies. I’ve known a few. Usually pretending to be an English teacher with a horrendous accent.
I was thinking specifically of a foreign migrant worker from Indonesia who comes over here to be a caregiver or factory worker and was sponsored by an agency. I’ve never met one who was Chinese Indonesian. That would be interesting.
