What Canadian bank do you use?

Good morning! Need some advice.

My main chequing account is with ING Direct in Canada and I’ve just been informed that they don’t accept international wire transfers.

I’m not in Taiwan yet so it’s not a problem, but I’d like to open up a new account with another bank to make things easier before leaving and I’d like to get your input on that.
I’ve read that some people have been hit with additional fees because the transfer went through another bank before getting to their Canadian account (citibank to get to RBC for example)

Anyone doing business with TD, Scotia Bank, HSBC, BMO, CIBC and living in Taiwan? What’s your experience from abroad with your bank?

Is transferring money from a Paypal account (connected to a Taiwan bank account) to another Paypal account (connected to my Canadian bank account) the easiest way to go?

How about getting a certified cheque in CDN funds from a Taiwan bank and sending it home? Risky?

I use TD Bank. Have had no problems making withdrawals from ATMs in Taiwan ($5 CAD service charge though) or wire transferring money from my Taiwan bank account to them.

Thank you Adam. How’s the exchange rate when you withdraw from an ATM?

Do you suggest I arrive in Taiwan with a larger sum of NTD bills or am I better off with a smaller amount and use ATMs once I’m there?

What Taiwan bank do you do business with?

Thanks for your help!
