As you can see from some of the responses, you might be able to start your own private practice as a clinical social worker helping those (mainly foreigners) who are suffering from various mental health issues. That said, I have an MSW which I haven’t really used here but, but it did get in the door for various teaching jobs.

BA in English Philology, MA in Language Teaching, and CELTA. The last one is especially helpful if you want to teach here.

I finished my BA in English Literature, which basically means I spent four years over-analyzing metaphors and now have a very expensive appreciation for semicolons. Moving to Taiwan is actually a brilliant long-term move because the government’s “Bilingual 2030” initiative ensures a massive, sustained demand for native speakers and English-proficient professionals well into the next decade. If you’re looking for a fallback that isn’t social work, a friend of mine actually suggested getting extra specialization online, like this course from elvtr she’s taken [Sports Journalist Course | Online Sports Journalism Training | ELVTR UK](https://uk.elvtr.com/course/sports-journalist-course) the storytelling skills from an English degree translate perfectly into high-energy media roles. Whether you stick with teaching or pivot into journalism, Taiwan’s high quality of life and safety make it one of the best “Plan A” locations you could aim for.

Except the government isn’t hiring these people or actually changing their ways, the businesses don’t want to hire foreigners, and the schools have pivoted to hiring Filipinos as much as possible. At the MoE and university levels that Bilingual 2030 is a bit of a joke. Last I heard the government had axed their external consultants and were pivoting to teaching foreigners Chinese in order to keep the universities afloat, rather than teach the professors English, since they have to pay the students to come to Taiwan anyways…

This has been going on for a while. It’s a good plan as travel to the PRC has become more complicated for some nationalities (not all). It also helps Taiwan’s soft power for more folks from abroad to spend time here.

BSc in business administration

MSc in finance/investment management

I actually taught in Taiwan without a degree at first because I have ROC citizenship and US and they didn’t seem to think it’s a problem. I was upfront that I finished 3 years of school but didn’t finish my 4th year and they didn’t seem to mind. I think it was 10x easier for them hiring me as a citizen.

I didint mind teaching at all during my time in my early 20s. Pay was ok but like most teachers I had a 2nd or 3rd income.

I see so many advertisements, that now say “nationalities is not restricted” Or even directly advertising to the Filipino market for recruitment, especially for elem. schools. Cheaper labor has been driving the markets now, really can’t negotiate pay much it seems.

It depends on what you’re looking for and what you’re hoping to earn.

A masters in social work earns around 45,000 NTD a month it seems.

Exactly and it’s not going away.

It was about normalizing it to parents which has been done it seems.

Then again the more entrepreneurial of westerns can teach English to potential Philippine teachers

Do you think that sector of the economy in Taiwan is open to someone from abroad showing up with a degree in that field?
