Hi everyone,
I have been wanting to come to live/work in Taiwan for a couple of years now, and after not having much luck finding Finance/IT related roles there (the industry I’m in now), I have decided to try my hand at teaching. I’m now starting to look a little more seriously at things because I plan to be in Taiwan from early next year & would like to be in the best position possible when I get there. With that in mind I’d like to get a clear idea as to what qualifications I need to work in particular areas. I’ve done a little research into some areas, so have included what I think are the requirements, but am happy to be corrected.
Buxibans - 4 year Bachelors degree (any area)
Government Schools - 4 year Bachelors degree + Home country teaching accreditation
University - PhD (Have read that Masters is sometimes accepted?)
I’m not sure if there are other levels of schooling in Taiwan.
I have completed a basic TESOL course, and have the option of “upgrading” to a Certificate IV. Would that be sufficient to have the teaching accreditation from my home country? I have also started a Masters degree, but have had to put it on hold as a result of my work commitments. Would that be sufficient enough for a university?
Oh, and to top it off, I have no formal teaching experience (except the TESOL course) - not sure if that’s a requirement for anything, though I’m sure it helps!
Thanks in advance,
Fish.
