What do I do if I want to quit one school for another?

So basically I am fed up with my job and have the oppotunity to get another in a better environment, with better hours and pay. I do not have work permit or ARC as of yet but will be getting one shortly from my current school. The other school won’t need me until September. So what is the process for changing your ARC from one school to another?

I checked TEALIT but it seems very confusing for me as I am not to familiar with the way the SYSTEM works here. I have only been here for a few months.

Thanks

How long have you been here, and how long have you been working at your current school?

I’m guessing you have been working at your current school for some time to be “fed up” with it. If you have been working illegally without an ARC and work permit and you have managed with visa trips and alike, then surely you can hold on until September and let your new school apply for your work permit/ARC?

While you may want your present school to apply for your ARC/work permit and then transfer it consider:

a). It’s more of a hastle than holding out until September

b). It looks bad on you if you break your contract so soon

c). It looks bad on foreign teachers here in general. Bad words travel faster than good words and people who terminate contracts so soon after obtaining an ARC just add to the 'bad foreigner image."

look on the ARC forum. I bleive you can apply for a second arc with the new school and your old school can’t do jack. There are details on the other forum.

I have only been here since April 1st and have been working since about mid April. I like teaching but the school I am teaching at really sucks. In particular the owner he is always breathing down my back telling me what to do and how to do it. I have seen some jobs on TEALIT that look pretty promising.

To answer your question if I have been working here illegally the answer is a definite NO.

Regarding breaking my contract, it stipulates that if I want to leave all need do is give 2 weeks notice and if my boss wants to fire me all he need do is give me 2 weeks notice.

It seems as if I could leave at a moments notice almost and could get fired in the same breath.

What can I do? Can I get a job at another school while having gotten an ARC from another school? Will I be able to transfer my ARC? I should have my ARC in about 3 weeks from now.

Ahhh…so am I right in saying you are working whilst your ARC is being processed?

You can apply to another school and keep your current resident status without leaving Taiwan. Quite how you do this I am unsure of but I know that not too long ago you had to leave Taiwan and start the whole process of applying for an ARC again.

As Butcher Boy suggested, have a look on the ARC forum for more information. If I can clarify things further, I’ll let you know.

this may help you:

tealit.com/arc_transfers_and … etters.htm

basically, get a new job, get the approval entered on your ARC, then give formal notice at your old job

If I’m wrong on any of this, or there’s better info, please comment…

thanks

After re-reading your situation, I would encourage you to get a new job for September 1 start, go through the arc -police stuff as set out in that link, then give two weeks notive by registered letter to your boss. That will allow the kids to finish the summer with you, everything will be tidy. Good luck!
