I got some meds and a prescription for an allergy issue at a hospital here, but when after another month I went to my local pharmacy to get my next month’s supply they said (or at least I think they said - my Mandarin is atrocious) I needed a piece of paper as well as my health card, but I think I’ve lost the piece of paper? Apparently it came with the meds I got at the hospital, but I’ve either lost it or thrown it out unwittingly.
Can anyone confirm that in order to get a regular monthly prescription filled, I need to take that piece of paper from the hospital to the pharmacy along with my health card? Or can I get them with just my health card? I think I assumed they’d have everything on a computer already, but perhaps not.
Or do I need to go all the way back to the hospital and ask one of the volunteers there to help me?
Yes you need the paper script unless your doctor sends it directly to a pharmacy.
As Andrew0409 says, you need the piece of paper, as ridiculous as it seems.
If you know the name of the meds its often easier and cheaper to just buy them directly from the pharmacy without a prescription or NHI card.
Thanks. I know the name of the meds, but not in what quantities and I already paid for them at the hospital. And I don’t think these ones are cheap. Surely this happens to other people? What do they do? Go and ask at the hospital? Do I actually need to go and make a new appointment there? I can’t be the first person this happened to.
Happened to me. Lost the stupid form during Chinese New Year spring cleaning. Only option was making another appointment. Resposes above confirm that you need that form. Easiest to obtain by making another appointment with the same doc or, knowing the script, the most convenient clinic with an accommodating doctor.
Yeah, that’s what you’ll need to do. Hopefully they’ll just print you a new copy. If it’s something you’ll be taking long term, the doctor, really the nurse, will print you a paper for each monthly refill that you’ll get. If you didn’t get it at a local pharmacy before, you may not be able to the next time. When I go to a hospital and get a prescription, I get the refills at the same hospital where it was prescribed, but it may depend on the medication.
If you have any paper from there, find your chart number. It will make it easier when you go back to the hospital to find your records, though if you don’t have it, it’s all in your health card linked data.
Pro tip: Always keep everything you get from a hospital, tax office, immigration, and everywhere else.
