What do we obtain renting a place for 2.200 US$ ? A house?

Make it very clear what you want and how much you are willing to spend. Prepare a detailed list with your must-have requirements and nice-to-have options so the agents know what to look for, else you will waste lot’s of time on visiting places you actually don’t want.

I posted a list of at least 10 criteria.
The more points they can confirm, the more interested I am.
They know about a “certain” budget, offering me to play with the min-max
And finally, I posted a list of locations.

If they are specialists, I do believe the trip will be fruitful.
If not…as someone recommended, we’ll be for a few weeks in temporary housing giving us more time.

The scooter thing was a good idea indeed…

Your budget isnt that great to be honest. My time at an ‘embassy’ the rental allowance for the lowest level staff member(s) was approx. NT$120k. The 'ambassador’s" was NT$350k.

That said, for NT$70k, you should be able to find a decent place. My advice is do NOT let the admin people from your company try and find you a place. Once the real estate agents here “hi i’m from company X looking for a place for a new foreign staff member”, the agent jacks up the price. e.g. colleague at the ‘embassy’ was paying NT$160k for a place. A friends mother lived in an identical apartment 2 floors higher and was paying NT$95k.

Yeah, pretend you’re an impoverished English teacher. Bargain hard.

I AM a poor middle managment guy, working for a small company.
Wish I even WAS a lower-level Embassy staff member;

I am confident that things will end up in a good way.
Keep you posted

So, I did paid a visit to Taipei with the house-hunting objective in mind.

Guess what

Long Shan Lin community is right next to Lotus Hill. It has houses… but probably as sandman describes. Also I think the club facilities are a bit run down there.

I removed this posting as the company lawyer is in charge of a dispute…

Neihu is very nice and centrally located! Congrats! Glad you could find something not too far over your budget that you are happy with.

Hi Ceevee,

Do you mean White Horse Community near KangNing Rd? If so then we live next to you in Long Shan Lin. They have some nice places at White Horse but if it’s over 70 000 then it sounds over priced. White Horse is comparable to Long Shan Lin and a friend just rented a place here for less than 30 000!

The house was said to be in Neihou, but it was not…

or diapers  We have two small kids as well.
