I’d rather be lying on a beach somewhere or hiking in the mountains. But as jobs go, I like my job. The work’s often interesting and challenging, my boss for the most part leaves me alone unsupervised to do what I feel needs to be done, I’m learning, gaining experience, making contacts, and the pay’s not too bad. But one of the little things I like about my job is the security guards. They’re all very friendly and respectful. Especially one.
There’s this one guy in cap and uniform at the front desk who always greets me, as I arrive in the morning, with a huge grin and a long drawn out, “TSAAOOOOOOOO.” Other times he’ll snap to attention, with the same silly grin, give me a crisp salute and call out, “GOOD MORNING SIR!” And I can’t help but smile. . . and laugh. I don’t think I’ve ever been saluted before and rarely does someone refer to me as “sir.” It just seems so ridiculous (and I think he knows it too). But he’s performing his job perfectly and it’s a nice way to start the work day.
