I think people who support the other party than me are
Retarded
Traitors who don’t care about Taiwan
Should be beaten up with a baseball bat
That is their opinion and I respect it.

I’ve seen a lot of personal abuse on these forums directed at people with an opposing political view, and a lot of statements that don’t sound so democratic to me so I’m wondering what you really think of them.
I’m sceptical of anybody who thinks that their candidate/party of choice is perfect and the other guy/party is Satan. The way I see it, there are serious pros and cons for each side. People who don’t realize that are naive, IMO.
Let’s spice it up a bit. Imagine that a future DPP government decides to declare independence and that they have support from the majority of the electorate. Perhaps the government was compelled by the PRC, or perhaps not. Let’s also assume that support for indpendence is so strong that a majority is willing to fight to defend Taiwan from a PRC attack Yes, I know these are big assumptions, but I am just describing a possible scenario. My main point is that in this scenario, a clear majority of Taiwanese people are strongly in favor of independence.
In this situation, what should the government do with all the KMT/PFP types? Some of them would be willing to respect the will of the majority; they might stay in Taiwan or they might move over to the mainland. However, I think many of us know pro-unificationists who would not be able to accept Taiwan independence. I’ve heard many of these people say that they would colaborate with the mainlanders and do whatever they could to subvert the Taiwanese government if there were ever a declaration of independence. Of course, some of them are already doing it.
Nationalist sentiment among some KMT/PFP people is very strong and they will never accept independence. I’m not asking what everyone thinks of that. What I am curious about is what the government or pro-independence majority could or should do with all the pro-KMT/PFP folks. Keep in mind that it would be very difficult to decide who among these people would actually try to subvert the government and help the mainlanders. Would we see another 2-28, but the majority of the victims would instead be pro-uni people?
:offtopic: I think the last two posts need to be put into a different thread.
Why? It seems to me that the original question is about respecting your opponent or those who may disagree with you. There are plenty of people in Taiwan who at present lay only scorn upon those in the opposite camp, but as soon as the shit hits the fan, they’d probably be ready and willing to escalate to physical violence.
I think other selections in the poll ought to be “Misinformed,” and “Politically naive.”
Which is the exact attitude which prompted me to start this topic, I think the closest for you is “1 - Anyone who disagrees with me is obviously retarded”
I really try hard to understand and respect the other side, but deep down I feel they are retarded traitors that should be beaten up with a baseball bat.
In a democracy, people should respect the opinions of others. Though, more and more, with these ads I see coming from the KMT, I have to wonder what is going through the minds of their supporters!
Let’s say, theoretically, we have a country with two parties.
One party is the Democrat-Republicans led by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the ilk.
The opposition party are the Nationalist Socialists led by Adolf, Goebbels, and the ilk.
Now, what should I think of supporters of the party I’m opposed to? How far should I go to stop them from ever assuming power? Remember:
Mussolini was elected democratically
Hitler was elected democratically
Bush was…uh, no he was appointed by the Supreme Court, but you get my point! The great paradox of democracy is that people can vote themselves out of democracy. That is why elections in Iraq are going to be so problematic. If they held democratic elections there tomorrow, they’d vote in fundamentalist Islamisist theocrats who’d establish another totalitarian state just like Iran.
Not that I’m implying that certain political parties in Taiwan don’t have a track record of 40+ years of outright fascism and martial law and no respect for human rights, or anything.
If people who support the other side can offer sound, sensible justification for their stance, I respect their standpoint and accept the difference in our views.
If they support the other side because they have swallowed its outpouring of idiotic assertions, lies and distortions, I have nothing but contempt for them.
If they support that side because they share the values and aspirations of its leaders (i.e., to reverse Taiwan’s reforms, reinstate the hei jin culture, throttle Taiwan’s democratic development, and drag Taiwan back to how it was under the Chiang dictatorship), then I certainly consider them as treacherous scum who deserve to be dealt with very harshly.
Ok, let’s have forumosa model of the Taiwan election.
Let’s have our own forumosa election
Gus is Guo Fu CKS
Maoman is Lee Deng Hui
Now two parties to run against each other and leaders for those parties.
Perhaps Formosa as Chen and Lu… hmmmm - I dunno
Opposition - Tigerman and Blueface666 will do for the KMT (no offense guys)
ok, they have a campaign. The use the same campaign tactics as Taiwanese do. We even have threads dedicated to dirt digging and muck raking on these guys - nothing that is a deportable offense.
Ok, now if a Taiwanese should get involved - we fine him because that’s not allowed apart from those who have duel nationality - we’d put them in commericals. (wink)
Anyway it all comes together in one massive P.M vote day and we declare a winner. We fight about the results and protest online.
