What does Lien Chan really believe?

Does Lien Chan really believe the DPP stole the election?

 • Yes. And he sincerely believes his actions are the right thing for the country.
 • Yes, but he’s in this for himself, not the best of the country.
 • Somewhat.
 • No, but he’s challenging the election for the best of the country.
 • No. This is just a cynical power grab.

Lots of media reports say that Lien Chan believes that the DPP stole the election from him through various means. Since the media apparently get to play mind-reader, Forumosa.com posters should be able to as well.

What’s your take on what Lien really believes? (As opposed, perhaps, to what he says he believes.)

my vote was for the last option. no one who becomes head of the kmt could be that stupid.

I agree with Lee Teng-hui, that Lien has become mentally unbalanced, has completely lost touch with reality, and is suffering from the delusion that he should be the president and has been robbed of his rightful position unfairly. The sooner he is taken away by the men in white coats, the better it’ll be for him as well as all the sane and decent people in Taiwan (though not so good for James Soong and his gang, who are only too glad to use Lien’s lunacy to their advantage).

I think that the charge of “stole the country” is quite ironic. After all what did the KMT do on October 25, 1945? Without any formal international agreement, they stated that “Taiwan was retroceded to China.”

In terms of “stealing the country”, that is a significant accomplishment.

But in any case, Lien Chan should shut his big mouth.

i see his latest ploy is to call for a new election next year based on 600,000 pieces of evidence that the last election was unfair. where the fuck do they get 600,000 pieces of evidence from? how is it possible? i agree with omni that it’s time for the men in white coats to lead him away…to misquote winston c…never in the field of democratic politics has so much nonsense been spouted by one man…i’m just waiting for the claim that aliens stole KMT ballots…it’s just as plausible as all the other “theories”
Taipei, May 29 (CNA) Opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Lien Chan has instructed party officials to prepare for the presidential election anew, a KMT spokeswoman said Saturday…
The Taiwan High Court is expected to make its judgment on the lawsuit of the presidential election annulment in September.
Party officials, at least most of them, must really be starting to wonder if Lien’s elevator goes all the way to the top.
And September? That’s a while down the road.

A really good essay on facing defeat in elections was in the Taipei Times today, but it was not about Lien Chan or Taiwan’s KMT. It was about the recent elections in the Philippines, but substitute Taiwan for Philippines in the essay, and it’s pretty right on. LINK here:

TITLE: “Why Losers are so reluctant to concede” by some think tank guy who used to be in South Korea and now is in Manila for some German Think Tank and is probably with the German CIA. How else does he make a living?

Yes, Cranky’s polls seems to be missing the one obvious choice, that the insult to his preening self esteem has sent him off the deep end. This certainly seems to be the opinion of a large part of the KMT, whose attitude to their leader is rather like that of Mr Rochester’s to his mad wife – shut her in the attic and don’t mention her, ever.
