Not only OP got confused. There are tons of threads where people confuse this.
I have been in Taiwan for many years on a JFRV. My wife and I have been split up for some time know but she was allowing me to keep the paperwork in place. However, we now need to file for divorce and I need to change my status.
In this threat alloverthefloor seems to believe his ARC with the purpose of joining family is a “JFRV”, as opposed to the ARC he now has to change his JFRV into. The thread is even titled “Changing my JFRV to ARC”.
Another thread, another confusion:
I’m an American woman with a Taiwanese hubby. I’m already on the household registration, have all the legit marriage documents, etc. Now my question is: how does one go about changing their ARC over to a JFRV?
In another thread, tomthorne mixes things up completely:
ARC- Alien Resident Certificate. This has to be sponsored by an employer. Your work rights are limited to working for said employer (plus up to two others if you add them).
APRC - Alien Permanent Resident Certificate. You can only apply for this if you have lived and worked in Taiwan for over 5 years. It provides open work rights so is ace! Drawback is you can still get deported if you behave like a complete twat.
JFRV - Joint Family Resident Visa. This also offers open work rights, but you have to be married to a Taiwanese chap or chapesse to get one. This visa is very popular with the otherwise unemployable. Benefit is you are very unlikely to get deported even if you behave like a complete twat. However, if the other half tires of you then you could well get downgraded to an ARC or even visa runs.
There should be a clear and strictly enforced mod policy on this as well a concise and clear primer outlining the specific terms at the top of the Visa & Residency forum.
It is exhausting to reply to questions and explain procedures and steps to people, when suddenly some other Forumosan enters the thread and posts something utterly wrong and confusing.
How should people navigate the complexities of ROC immigration law and policy, when Forumosa is full of unmoderated half-truths and inaccuracies?
