There used to be a great folk & Irish folk show on the radio back home, but I was poor at the time and so I didn’t buy a lot of CDs of the artists I liked. Now, 12 years later, I can’t remember which ones I liked. I’m looking for English, Scottish and Irish folk of a specific flavor – ballads, love songs, and the like (vocals), especially with nice rich voices. As a reference, I like Mary Black, Connie Dover, Sandy Denny and Van Morrison, but am not a big Chieftains fan. I don’t want the raucous party bands or instrumental jigs and the like. In this vein, whose music should I be on the lookout for? I like deep rich male voices too, the mellow ones; and simple, acoustic accompanyment is good. Thanks in advace!
Well no one has answered your post so I suggest
[b]Lord Lucan[b] he has a nice baritone that really warms up after his 15th pint of Stella. I don’t think he has recorded anything.
How about they claim to be an Irish influenced Punk-Folk band from Florida.

Andy White
Val Doonican. Knitted cardigans an added bonus.
The frickin Dubliners, before Ronnie Drew left. christ I loved that man’s voice. But Luke Kelly was almost as good. The Town I Loved So Well. Brilliant song. Some of their stuff is what you don’t want, instrumentals and pub songs, but most of it should fit the bill.
Oh and Clannad’s pretty good but not that folky i guess.
Hell I’ll just come over to your house and sing to you, how’s that?
