What happened to Family Mart coffee?

Did it change? I usually drink Americano style, medium cup, hot (of course).

It’s different. Did you notice?

No

Someone must have peed in the cup

Didn’t I see they were selling Ethiopian coffee? I need to try it that’s my fave. Doubt it’s Ethiopian though their regular coffee is surely Robusta from Vietnam.

I didn’t notice but I will trust the judgment of someone named @ilikecoffee.

I would say that I doubt Fam Mart clerks are as standardized in their coffee making routine as a Starbucks barista. I could see there being more inconsistency from Fam Mart to Fam Mart depending on which harried teenage clerk is trying to steam your latte in between ringing up someone for their snack purchases.

funny you say this since regularly Starbucks is one of the worst coffees I have here we I am force to drink that (some friends like the excuse-of-a-coffee-full-of-sugar drinks they serve there). Famima in the ones I regularly go is fine, enjoying the Alishan blend, not bad at all for 65NT.

Who is forcing you? Do I need to call my Calabrese relatives to show them a good time?

:pinched_fingers:

missus’s pals… very TWese… not very often thank God!

These don’t sound like very good ‘pals’. Are they trying to hurt you? Blink twice if you are being held captive!

I didn’t say it was good. I just said it was standardized… like McDonald’s is standardized. I don’t notice inconsistency between Starbucks outlets.

I sure do! The well managed ones that brew the single origin beans roasted in Kanagawa Japan (current offerings might include a Colombia or an Ethiopia Sidimo) are brilliant. The not well managed ones serving the beans roasted in Malaysia are . . . well sometimes I would just prefer water.

Some of those coffees taste like they’ve been shat through the arse of a civet cat…

That costs extra. :upside_down_face:

Seriously though I would never ever order something made from an espresso machine at S-Bucks Taiwan. I don’t think they are good at this at all. In the positive assessment above, I am speaking narrowly of black brewed coffee, served properly in a ceramic mug, relished on days cold and hot alike. On a good day, at a well run branch, if I squint a bit, I can almost imagine I am in Tokyo . . .

Guy

I fixed it for you.

Have ordered multiple times in the last week. Still the best cup of coffee you can buy outside for 30nt

My biggest problem with Family Mart coffee is the randomness, some stores are ok, while some are really bad. Could maybe be based on cleaning of the machine or calibration of it, as the beans are the same according to my understanding

We have five stores nearby. I’ve tested four of them for their basic Americano.

The nearest, and my previous go to, has started selling brown water. The new managers probably don’t care as much as the old ones did. So I switched to the other two nearby ones. #1 used to be quite reliable… but it’s getting wobbly. And the #3 store I haven’t tried more than 2x so I can’t tell yet. #4 is just too far away to really go to regularly. The coffee will be cold by the time I get to the office. #5 is so far away on a commute basis that it will be drunk before I get to the office. #6 is near my gym, and it has officially become ‘wobbly’ too. I may have to upgrade my drink, too… while near my gym, there are hardly any coffee shops open; near work I have several… but I think I’m going to go back to making my own at the office. It’s just better that way.

The Death of Starbucks Coffee was the introduction of the first superautomatics, press button Coffee Jockeys that used to be real baristas can no longer make regular espresso. While I understand the business decision that Starbucks made… I no longer go to Starbucks coffeeshop for ‘good’ coffee. In fact, it’s been a long time since my last real coffee there. High volume stores I get it, I really do. But it killed the barista for sure @ SB. The heart of *$ was swapped out a long time ago. Now it’s just a candied drink shop that is almost unrecognizable to its foundation. I keep getting coupons to buy more with their app. NOT interested.

Yes. The maintenance & cleaning of those rather expensive machines can be haphazard. Coffee grounds stuck in the system will reduce the flavor for sure; I make my coffee by hand, I know most of the variables by heart, and it typically comes out the same every time. So there is no excuse for an automated machine to be worse. BTW, the same is true at the high volume *$ stores, esp. at the end of day you’ll start getting watery coffee. THAT would never happen in the good old days. Each shot would tamped, extracted and the equipment cleaned. The only variables were the pressure & temperature of the water. But not the superautomatics…
