What is a 酸民？

Hello,

I often see this term used on internet message boards and Facebook. Does it refer to an internet troll? Or does it refer to a bitter person in a more general sense; i.e, can you be a 酸民 without airing your grievances on the web?

Here is an example from one of the comments on President Ma’s Facebook page:

酸民 is used to describe netizens who does nothing other than bitch about stuff and criticize others.

To be more precise, 酸民 = 鄉民 (Netizens) with the first word replaced by 酸 (bitch around).

鄉民 originates from a film of Stephen Chow.

酸民 is the buzzword of network in the 21th century. It mainly refers to those people who are willing to post his impressions but with some sour remarks.
