Hi, My name is Paul Carr. I’m a newbie in Taipei and Taiwan. I arrived in Taiwan on the 23rd of March 2009. Yesterday, I checked out the Jhong Jheng (Zhongzheng) Sports Center near Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. It was already mentioned on this forumosa thread from 3 years ago here.
I went there yesterday and I was told that they charge something like 1500 Taiwan dollars for a month’s membership. I think that’s a very good price.
For the first two weeks in Taipei, I was living very near this gym. But, today, I had to move to a new hostel near Ximen subway station. They were booked out for tonight in the hostel I was staying in. I understand that Taipei has 12 districts and each district has a sports center like Jhong Jheng sports center for Jhong Jheng district of Taipei. I think my new hostel near Ximen subway station is located in Wanhua district so I was wondering if anyone knows where the Wanhua Sports Center is located as it is likely to be nearer to where I am now. I was trying to find its address on google but can’t find it. Any help, appreciated.
That’s not the closest one to you. The closest one is actually in Ximen. It’s on Kunming St., only a few blocks from the subway station. I’m not sure what the address is.
The one by the CKS is the one I went to last summer when I was back in Taipei. Only one iv been in, but it is very nice. I liked it and went several times.
I think you’re referring to California Fitness? They’re very expensive.[/quote]
It’s not the California fitness. I’m not sure what the intersection is, but I know it’s there. Just walk out of MRT exit #6 and walk down the street until you get to Kunming street. Take a right and walk until you come to a big park on your right hand side. You’ll walk for maybe three or five blocks. The sports center is on the opposite side of the park, on your left hand side.

Hi Byshguy,
I walked along Kunming Street like you suggested but I didn’t see any large park on the right or any gym on my left-hand side.
@Paul: If you copy the address into Google maps it will show you where it is. 西寧 (Xining) is the 1st major street after coming out of exit 6 and is also the backside of the Ximending night market area. You’d take a right at 西寧 and then start walking. Walk along past 峨嵋 (E Mei street), past 武昌街 (Wuchang street), past 漢口街 (Hankou street) and finally hit the intersection of 西寧 and 開封街 (Kaijie street). After you pass through the intersection on your right should be the Fuxing elementary school. Halfway down on the left side of the street should be the gym. It’s about 5 or 6 city blocks depending how you count the small streets.

No problem. Yeah, I found it. They charge NT$1500 a month, I think. NT$50 each time. I think that’s just for one hour each time though. I was thinking about this the other day. NT$1500 a month isn’t much a deal compared to an hourly rate of NT$50. 50X30=1500. There isn’t really a discount in the monthly charge. I think I’ll pay each time. Maybe, they’ll be flexible and not mind if I stay over an hour.
