What is the top tax rate in Taiwan?

It was invented by the socialist labour government after WWII. The same guys who nationalised the railways I believe.

Dont blame me… I voted for Kodos

I was referring to the invention of modern insurance, as in Lloyds marine insurance.

Big mistake. Kang was obviously the superior candidate.

Well you should have referred to the NHS…That socialist marvel/relic.

Well, it’s kind of a disaster, and I didn’t want to be rude.

How is it a disaster ?
The American healthcare system…Now that’s a disaster, most efficient at pumping opiates into the population to kill them …

If you don’t think it’s a disaster, you’re in a state of denial. Even Teh Grauniad thinks so.

Of course, it’s a disaster in the U.S. too. A different kind of disaster, but a disaster all the same.

NhS is much better because it covers most of the population.
In the US…You are completely screwed, often even when you have private insurance, with the copays.

They’re both deeply flawed systems, not going to argue which one is worse. I’m just glad I’m in Taiwan.

I think it depends on your particular circumstance. They both have big issues. The US could be good for you if you work for a nice company in a executive position where you have amazing insurance from the company. It would suck if you can’t afford insurance or your insurance won’t cover it and end up with a half million dollar bill for getting sick.

What do you think is the secret of the Taiwanese model? universal coverage while spending around 6 percent of GDP on health care (US has a higher GDP and spends about 12 percent).

The NHS is vastly superior in general.
US healthcare works for rich people and those employed by big corporations (sometimes ) and basically nobody else.

It even manages.to pump vast amounts of addictive prescription drugs into the general population, hooking them up for life.

Socialism man…Socialism

I wouldn’t say vastly.

You don’t have to be rich to get good health insurance in the US. Most people depend on who they work for to provide health insurance. My sister has amazing health insurance and dental and she’s just started working a few years ago in casting. She works for Warner brothers so they have good coverage. Gov workers usually get good insurance as well. The problem is, most people are dependent on their job and you must be full time basically. Freelancers and people who work multiple jobs would struggle.

I guess it depends. I would rather get good insurance from my work in the US than having the NHS.

Vastly…

You don’t work Andrew youd be sitting in a heap on the sidewalk while you bled out…

Some cases reality…Even if they do bring you to emergency they will patch you up and charge you your house mortgage for it…

I had a co-worker she had brain cancer in the US.
She went in for the surgery, they did their thing and it was a tough recuperation. She had insurance through work.

But what was worse was her bankruptcy as her insurance did not cover anesthesia. They never told her that.

And for whatever reason the anesthesia cost something like 100,000 USD and of course she wasn’t able to work to pay it off. Her family was rich but she still declared personal bankruptcy.

I heard of older retired couples in the US. One will get sick and their savings are drained just like that…

Ok in what ways is it vastly better?

Britain’s healthcare expenditure is close to France and Belgium’s but for some reason the systems in France and Belgium seem far better.

And I believe they keep spending more each year while not improving. They have something like the lowest bed to patient ratio in the EU and I think the least practicing doctor to people ratio. Long ass waits, heard the level of care is also lacking compared to France and Belgium. Many horror stories of doctors not willing to spend time to check what’s wrong unless you’re dying and having to wait for weeks.

What I meant is it is a lot easier for city-states to provide social benefits with far lower tax rate since all the resources would only need to be poured into the city. Most countries can’t do that.
